Tanzania seeks Indian help in hospitality industry

Tanzania has sought India's help in developing its hospitality industry and is keen on a direct air link between the countries.

These issue were discussed at a 45-minute meeting between Indian Tourism Minister Ambika Soni and Tanzania's Natural Resources and Tourism Minister Shamsa S. Mwangunga.

'The two leaders discussed the current world scenario, especially the petroleum product hike and how steps to be taken to stop its impact on the tourism sector,' said a statement issued here Wednesday.

Mwangunga sought India's help in developing the hospitality sector in Tanzania and also training of manpower.

'Tanzania enjoys a rich cultural bondage with India and this bonding will go further if we exchange ideas and policies to promote tourism in each other's country,' she said.

She urged Soni to explore the possibility of restoring a direct flight connection between India and Tanzania. At the moment, Air India, the national carrier, flies to Tanzania via Kenya. Earlier, it used to fly directly to Tanzania.

Soni said a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the two countries in the tourism sector would facilitate future cooperation. Soni also extended invitation to Tanzanian writers and journalists to visit India for better understanding of this country.
