Tripura to develop potent tourist destinations

Tripura government’s Tourism Wing, in order to develop and promote potent tourist destinations, recently submitted project reports to the central government. Speaking on the locations and planned developments, Dibyendu Shekhar Dutta, Senior Information Officer, Tourism Wing, Information Cultural Affairs and Tourism, Tripura said, “We have already identified few sanctuaries along with historical destinations of the state. With the help of Ministry of Tourism (MoT) and India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC), we have been able to prepare project reports on these places.”

No active steps were taken till last year to develop and promote tourism in the state. In a bid to start constructive and compact tourism business and to use tourism as a medium of revenue exchange, the government of Tripura has approached the MoT. Apart from this, an expert team of ITDC professionals was sent to Tripura to assess the destinations and help the state government prepare the master plan for tourism, infrastructure and destination development. “We approached ITDC with the already popular spots and sanctuaries. Apart from assessing the existing destinations, they helped us adopt potent destinations. The proposal sent to the MoT is in accordance with the guidelines laid by them,” added Dutta.

Tripura is also planning to promote tourism products like Heritage Tourism, Religious Tourism and Water Sports Tourism. Other destinations in the developmental plans are Ujjayanta Palace, Unakoti, Pilak, Chabimura, Tripura sundari Temple, Benuban Vihar, Neermahal, and Dumboor Lake etc. The state government has already invited public players with valid projects based on Public-Private-Partnership format. The Tripura Tourism Wing, as part of their promotional activities, is conducting interactive sessions with leading tour operators around the country.

“Focusing on eco tourism we have already selected destinations like Sepahijala, Tepania Eco Park, Trishna Wildlife Sanctuary, Jampui Hilla, Roa Wildlife Sanctuary, Gomati Wildlife Sanctuary and Kalpania Nature Park, for tourism. We are working closely with the Forest Department for developing these spots and commissioning better infrastructure facilities. Khowai has already been declared to receive a fund of Rs 70 lakh from the centre,” informed Dutta.
