TAAI to promote Tunisia as a destination

The Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) plans to work with the Embassy of the Republic of Tunisia to promote the African nation in India. For the same, the Embassy and TAAI plan to hold road shows in major metros and Tier-II cities to create awareness about the destination. Promotional campaigns will be aimed at creating a market for Tunisia in India and also to put the destination on the Indian tourism chart. Road shows will be followed up with gastronomical nights, interaction of buyers and suppliers from both sides, placing advertisements, generating literature on Tunisia in local Indian languages and engaging writers to do destination stories highlighting the Tunisian travel experience.

Speaking with TravelBiz Monitor, Raouf Chatty, Ambassador, Republic of Tunisia offered, “We are watching the Indian market very closely. Currently we are at a nascent stage and weighing all possible options. India is a growing and a very important market for us. Even though Indian tourists constituted a negligible fraction of the seven million tourists Tunisia received last year; we want to increase the flow of tourists on both sides. Hence we are going to partner with the apex travel agents body, TAAI to create awareness about and a market for Tunisia in India.”

Rajji Rai, Vice President, TAAI said, “Along with organising road shows and inclusion of Tunisia in our brochures, we will hold agent learning workshops with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Tunisia. It is a relatively less explored destination. To feature it on the Indian tourist map, we first need to learn about the country. Only then can we sell it to clients.” Emphasising on the potential of Tunisia as a destination Rai said, “Indians have explored South East Asia and Europe. Now Indian tourists are
looking at Middle East and Africa. They have the money but don’t have much information about these places. So first we want to learn about the destination by conducting travel agent workshops and subsequently promote it to potential clients.”
