South Australia attracts record increase of Indian migrants

The picturesque Australian state of South Australia has emerged as a sought after destination for Indian migrants with a record 56 per cent increase in settler arrivals last year. Its capital Adelaide has been voted one of the world’s most livable cities. South Australia is a destination characterised by its popularity amongst Indian tourists and has also featured prominently in the most awaited movie of the year, Love Story 2050.

India is South Australia's second largest source market for skilled migrants in Australia. The expanding economy of South Australia has led to skill shortages in many industries. Having provided employment opportunities for skilled immigrants in a variety of industries, the top occupations preferred by Indian migrants are Accounting, Marketing Specialist, Business and Information Professionals, Sales Representatives (Medical and Pharmaceutical Products), Teacher (Education Officer), Sales Representatives (Industrial Products), Refrigeration and Air conditioning Mechanic and Records Manager.

Major projects create job opportunities and rewarding career opportunities in South Australia for Indian migrants which are expected to rise year on year. The Government of South Australia has committed to building on relationships with India to promote trade, education and migration. Mike Rann, Premier, South Australia says, “Indian migrants represent more than 14 per cent of all settler arrivals in South Australia, second only to the United Kingdom and ahead of China. Adelaide has been re-affirmed in recent independent surveys as being among the world’s most competitive cities to do business and one of the best cities in which to live. Pleasant Mediterranean climate, long beaches, easy access with everything in easy reach of the city centre and considerably less median house prices makes Adelaide a preferred location for living.”

The city has world class sports facilities like the Adelaide Oval, where Indian and Australian cricket teams have played to packed crowds. There’s plenty of entertainment with over 400 events a year, adds Rann. Adelaide is an affordable, safe and friendly place in which to live, work and learn. It has a strong sense of heritage and traditional values, yet it also has a vibrant international and cosmopolitan character.
