Punjab Tourism to set up aquarium cum awareness centre at Ropar

The Department of Tourism, Punjab, in order to develop Ropar as a tourist destination, will set up world class aquarium cum awareness centre in Fish Seed Farm, Katli, on the bank of river Satluj. An Expression of Interest (EOI) has already been invited by the Department. The aquarium will be based on international model and spread over an area of one acre with an education-cum-fish presentation centre and a seating capacity for 50 visitors. Apart from this, the aquarium will have a souvenir shop, aquarium outlet point, ticket counter cum office complex, store cum workshop, public conveniences and other entertainment facilities.

Surinder Bajaj, Deputy Director, Department of Tourism, Punjab said, “We plan to consult an aquarist of national or international repute for the construction of this aquarium cum awareness centre. The Ministry of Tourism (MoT) and Government of India (GoI) have already sanctioned an amount of Rs 3.75 crore for this project. The aquarium cum awareness centre will attract a large number of tourists." According to the Department of Tourism, Punjab, the consulting aquarist must have an experience of setting up at least one similar project, with a minimum cost of Rs two crore (excluding cost of land) in India or abroad. "The work of the consulting aquarist will be evaluated by a committee constituted by Chandigarh administration," added Bajaj.
