Mumbai Port Trust invites EoI for marina in Mumbai

The Mumbai Port Trust (MPT) has floated an Expression of Interest (EoI) for construction of a second marina in Mumbai (the first is a dedicated cruise terminal near Apollo Bunder in Mumbai) at the Powder Works Bunder and Lakri Bunder Road (near Reay Road and Sewri area). The EoI issued by MPT pertains to the development of facilities such as shelter, repairs for smaller boats, yachts and pleasure craft at the above mentioned sites. The due date for submitting the EoI is July 16, 2008, post which, MPT will examine the proposals that have been submitted. According to official sources within MPT, “Once all EoIs are submitted, MPT will ask companies to provide a detailed proposal with regards to the development of the site, investments required and feasibility studies.”

The second marina will cater to smaller vessels like boats and yachts mostly targeting domestic tourists to cash in on yachting and soft adventure sports at the marina. It will be operational three years from commencement of construction and will be on a Build Operate and Transfer (BOT) basis. MPT will provide the land and water front to build the marina while charging the operators a rental for the land used and also collecting a royalty from the overall business. It will offer land side facilities for marine services including dry storage sheds, engine service and repair bays, refuelling depot, electronic hoist to facilitate loading and unloading of boats, site offices and small restaurants to cater to tourist traffic.
