Malaysia to promote Educational Tourism

Tourism Malaysia, in a bid to tap the educational segment, recently organised a familiarisation (FAM) trip for principals and teachers from leading schools in Mumbai to showcase the myriad education and entertainment options in Malaysia. Accompanying them were the winners of the Inter-School competition Cascades, which took place in November last year. Malaysia is actively looking at educational institutions to offer itself as an educational destination to students. Malaysia's educational system has a number of academic options including engineering, medicine, business administration, computer sciences and information technology. Extensive options for studies in both academic and skill-based fields, along with activities like home stays at traditional villages, adventure camps and expeditions are the other products on offer.

Manoharan, Director, Tourism Malaysia said, "In the past we positioned the destination as a family getaway actively showcasing various family activities weaved around kids. Keeping the objective of showcasing the various facets in Malaysia, which will be of interest to Indian students, the FAM trip was a step ahead in promoting the destination offering a gamut of educational and entertainment options available for the younger generation. It’s an opportunity for schools to enrich the knowledge of students."

The trip covered the historical city of Malacca giving insights of the glorious past that can be seen in Malacca's ancient relics that abound the city. The 'Garden City' of Putrajaya which has a sprawling park and wetlands or camps in Wetlands Park and a study tour to Agricultural Heritage Park, where students can see a living museum of fruits, spices, herbs etc. or a demonstration on the rubber-manufacturing process were also part of the FAM trip. Other learning spots include Kuala Lumpur’s bird park, Butterfly Park, orchid garden, and science centre. The capital city also has outdoor and indoor theme parks called the Genting Highlands.

Manoharan further added, "Colleges and universities in Malaysia have collaborated with reputed foreign universities of Europe, America and Canada, thereby facilitating students to successfully undertake cost-effective training programmes and obtain foreign degrees at reasonable prices. Students have a lot to gain not only from Malaysia's advanced infrastructure on the education front, but also from a variety of outdoor and recreational programmes."
