Malaysia Airlines launches its first refurbished A330-300 aircraft

Malaysia Airlines’ first A330-300 aircraft, from the fleet of 11 A330-300 and three A330-200 which underwent a cabin refurbishment programme, commenced operations last week. This refurbishment programme covers a total of 51 aircraft including both Airbus A330 and B737 aircraft and is part of the many initiatives taken by Malaysia Airlines to position itself as a Five Star Value Carrier (FSVC), as outlined in its Business Transformation Plan revealed in January 2008.

Under this initiative, both, Airbus A330-300 and A330-200 aircraft have been refurbished with new seat covers, carpet and un-pleated curtains, coupled with fresh and vibrant colours. Seat cushion and arm caps have been replaced with a new material, designed to enhance the seat comfort level. An additional feature introduced in A330-300 aircraft is the installation of LCD screens. The 15-inch dropdown retractable LCD screens are installed at every fourth seat row in the Economy Class of the aircraft. In addition, two units of this equipment are mounted at the bulkhead of the aircraft.

Dato' Sri Idris Jala, Managing Director, Malaysia Airlines' said, “The refurbishments and in-flight entertainment enhancement complements the Malaysian Hospitality initiative launched in January 2008. While the new aircraft will be delivered gradually after 2010, it is imperative for us to upgrade the existing ones, to ensure a fresh in-flight perspective of our quest to be a Five Star Value Carrier. The programme is well on track and we expect to complete the refurbishment and in-flight entertainment enhancements in all the Airbus A330-300 aircraft by December 28, 2008.”
