Indian scheduled airlines record growth in domestic passengers in second quarter of 2008

According to a recent report by Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation (CAPA) Indian scheduled carriers have recorded growth in second quarter of 2008. The total domestic passenger carried by the scheduled airlines of India from April to June 2008 was recorded to be 115.14 lakhs. While Air India (Domestic) carried 17.71 lakh passengers, Jet Airways carried 24.28 lakh, JetLite 9.48 lakh, Air Deccan 15.54 lakh, Kingfisher Airlines 16.52 lakh, Spice Jet 12.04 lakh, Paramount Airways 1.41 lakh, Go Air 4.49 lakh and IndiGo carried 13.50 lakh passengers.

The total domestic passenger carried by scheduled airlines of India from January to March 2008 was 111.90 lakhs. While Air India (Domestic) carried 16.42 lakh passengers, Jet Airways, JetLite, Deccan, Kingfisher Airlines, Spice Jet, Paramount Airways, Go Air and IndiGo carried 25.44 lakh, 7.98 lakh, 16.39 lakh, 16.26 lakh, 11.55 lakh, 1.42 lakh, 4.92 lakh and 11.52 lakh passengers respectively.

The percentage share of Air India (Domestic) in June, 2008 was recorded to be 16.4 per cent, Jet Airways 21.2 per cent, Jet Lite 8.1 per cent, Deccan 12.8 per cent, Kingfisher Airlines 14.3 per cent, Spice Jet 10.4 per cent, Paramount Airways 1.3 per cent, Go Air 3.1 per cent and IndiGo 12 per cent. On the other hand, the percentage share of the carriers in the second quarter of 2008 was - Air India (Domestic) 15.4 per cent, Jet Airways 21.1 per cent, Jet Lite 8.2 per cent, Deccan 13.5 per cent, Kingfisher Airlines 14.3 per cent, Spice Jet 10.5 per cent, Paramount Airways 1.2 per cent, Go Air 3.9 per cent and IndiGo 11.7 per cent.

While Air India (Domestic) recorded 59.6 per cent seat factor in June 2008, Jet Airways, JetLite, Deccan, Kingfisher Airlines, Spice Jet, Paramount Airways, Go Air and IndiGo recorded a seat factor of 68.1 per cent, 68.4 per cent, 63 per cent, 64.1 per cent, 67.8 per cent, 80.1 per cent, 71 and 71.2 per cent respectively.
