Finnish Tourism to launch ‘Finland Specialist’ Programme in India next year

Finnish Tourist Board plans to introduce ‘Finland Specialist’ programme for the travel trade in India from next year. Roads shows will be held in cities like Pune, Jaipur and some cities in Punjab, which have been identified as emerging markets by Finland. Finnish Tourism’s promotional campaigns in the Indian market will focus mainly on Lapland, a province of Finland.

“We are coordinating with people in Lapland, so that they can come and talk about their destinations to the travel trade in these Indian cities,” said Papori Bharati, Marketing Manager, Finnish Tourist Board. She added that promotional activities of the board will get a boost as the Board will shortly launch their new logo and portal to enhance their online presence. In order to increase awareness about Finland and its tourism products, Finnish Tourism has been organising various promotional activities, including familiarisation (FAM) trips, for the trade and media. “We have arranged about seven such trips in the last one year. We will be taking about five agents from India this month to attend a four-day workshop, which is scheduled from July 17 – 20, 2008,” said Bharati.

Finnish Tourism has set a target of 62,000 visitors from the Indian market this year. Finnish destinations received 50,000 visitors from India last year. “In the first four months of 2008, we had 21,000 visitors from India. It is a big achievement compared to the visitor numbers in the corresponding period last year, which was 14,000 visitors,” informed Bharati. “We are now working closely with Baltic states, Latvia, Lithvania and Estonia, because the connectivity to Finnish destinations is good from these countries,” she added.
