Emirates Airline commences Dubai Kozhikode service

Emirates Airline launched its Dubai-Kozhikode service day before yesterday with the inaugural flight departing from Calicut International Airport at 19.50 hrs. The airline will operate six flights a week. Apart from the Emirates delegation led by Salem Obaidalla, Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations, West Asia, Indian Ocean and Africa, 278 other passengers from USA, South Africa, Austria and the Middle East travelled on the first flight. Kozhikode, Emirates’ third gateway in Kerala and tenth in India, advances airline’s India presence to 125 flights per week, the highest frequency operated by an international carrier serving India. With the launch of direct services to Kozhikode, travellers from across the world can now fly to Kerala 24 times a week Besides Kozhikode, Emirates has also launched six-flights-a-week service to Guangzhou, China’s third major air hub and leading manufacturing centre.

On the Dubai-Kozhikode route, Emirates operates the technologically-advanced Boeing 777-200 and Airbus A330-200 aircraft in two-class configurations offering over 2000 seats and almost 100 tonnes of cargo capacity per, week per direction. The introductory fare for the flight is Rs 7,500 (one-way fare) and Rs 14,995 (return fare) in Economy Class from Kozhikode to Dubai and Rs 30,000 for a Business Class return ticket to Dubai. The fare will be valid till August 15, 2008 and can be booked through Emirates ticketing office or a local travel agent.

The launch of Emirates’ flights to Kozhikode will also allow international tourists to cover Kerala more conveniently, by enabling them to arrive in Northern Kerala and depart from the state’s Southern Region or vice versa,” said Salem Obaidalla, Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations, West Asia, Indian Ocean and Africa. “We are enthusiastic about the launch of operations to Kozhikode. I am confident the business and leisure travellers from the city will appreciate Emirates global network that currently spans over 100 destinations in more than 60 countries. Trade between Middle East and India is also expected to increase. Emirates will support the government’s campaign to attract more inbound tourists to ‘God’s own country’ by promoting Kozhikode and Kerala through its international network of offices,” said Orhan Abbas, Emirates’ Vice President India and Nepal.
