Easy Cabs to ply in Mumbai, Chennai and Pune by March 2009

Easy Cabs, a radio taxi brand, owned by Carzonrent, plans to expand operations in India. These Cabs have GPRS technology, digital fare meters and thermal printers for issuing bill or receipt etc. Currently operating 50 cabs in Chandigarh, 600 cabs in Delhi, 350 cabs in Hyderabad and 400 cabs in Bangalore, the company will soon enter Mumbai, Chennai and Pune. Disclosing the future plans of the company, Ashok Vashist, COO, Easy Cabs said, “We aim to start operations in Chennai by October this year, with an initial fleet size of 400. Our next market will be Mumbai, where 500 cabs will be operated from day one. By February next year, we will start our operations in Pune which is a Tier-II city with huge corporate sector potential.”

According to Vashist, the demand for radio taxis in metro cities is growing each year. “Not only metros but tier II cities like Pune, Jaipur and Chandigarh offer bigger opportunities from the corporate segment,” added Vashist. In order to tap the Common Wealth Games in 2010 in New Delhi, the company plans to operate 5,000 radio taxis in the capital. Apart from this, Easy Cabs also plans to issue pre-payment vouchers, which will be available through its call centre and website. “Our endeavor to provide safe transport to customers in Delhi has been successful with women and children accounting for more than 50 per cent of our bookings, and 30 per cent of the total usage is during the night,” said Vashist.
