Air Dravida to launch its operations from September, 2008

Chennai-based Air Dravida, which awaits the delivery of aircraft, will launch its operations in September, this year. It will get three aircraft in September and two more in December, 2008. Currently, the airline is in the process of finalising deals required for its operations. It has signed an agreement with SITA for providing IT infrastructure such as Computerised Reservation System (CRS), e-ticketing and departure control systems for check-in and loading. The airline plans at spending Rs three crore for the IT infrastructure development programme.

Commenting on launching the airline, despite the increase in Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) price Ramachandran Iyer, CEO, Air Dravida said, “We are opting for 50 seater-aircraft, which is easier to fill. We can cut down on cost as we do not have to pay a landing fee. Apart from this, we have to pay only four per cent sales tax on fuel as our aircraft will be small. We are planning at operating jet aircraft on routes where other airlines will have old propeller aircraft.” The airfare of the airline will be five to ten per cent lower than the full service carriers. It has projected a load factor of 80 per cent in the first year of operations.
