Qatar Airways cuts fuel surcharge

Qatar Airways has reduced the fuel surcharge on flights on its international network offering passengers significant savings on one-way and return tickets, Qatar daily, The Peninsula has reported. Passengers purchasing tickets to and from destinations all over the world served by the airline will be able to take advantage of the new lower supplements. The reduction applies to short and long-haul services in the airline’s global network. It follows an earlier reduction implemented by the airline in December 2008 on tickets for one-way and return flights from Doha, the carrier’s hub.

The move results from a fall in oil prices over the past few months following an unprecedented surge during 2008. Akbar Al Baker, Chief Executive Officer, Qatar Airways said, “In response to the recent reduction in oil and jet fuel prices, we are now pleased to lower the fuel surcharge substantially in our network, which demonstrates our commitment to the travelling public by offering highly competitive prices. Qatar Airways’ fuel surcharges have been significantly lower than those of other airlines. We have absorbed a large percentage of the increase in fuel prices in the past, passing very little onto the consumer.”

The airline has promised future adjustments to the fuel surcharge depending on trends in the international oil market. Qatar Airways operates a fleet of 67 Boeing and Airbus aircraft serving 83 key business and leisure cities across Europe, Middle East, Africa, South Asia, Far East and North America. The airline currently has outstanding orders for more than 200 aircraft worth over US$40bn.
