Marriott International celebrates 20 years in Asia

Marriott International will celebrate its 20th year in Asia later this month with plans to add 57 more properties to its portfolio over the next four years. The addition of 57 properties to Marriott’s 109 property portfolio will create over 15,000 new jobs in the hospitality sector across Asia. It will celebrate its 20th anniversary on February 27, 2009.

Marriott International brands include JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton, Marriott and Renaissance and Courtyard. Marriott’s President, Ed Fuller, believes Marriott has achieved great success in Asia in the space of two decades. Fuller said, “We have achieved substantial growth in Asia and generated tremendous awareness, customer preference and owner acceptance for our hotel brands throughout the region.”

In recent years, Marriott International has experienced its strongest growth in China, India and Thailand, with its 800th Courtyard by Marriott hotel opened last week in Shanghai. Over the next four years 21 hotels will open in China, 24 in India and eight in Thailand and its first property in the Maldives. South Korea will also have its first Courtyard-branded hotel in 2010 and Vietnam will be introduced to the JW Marriot brand.
