InterContinental to open 22 hotels in Tier-I and II cities of India

According to a report in the Financial Chronicle, Intercontinental Hotel Group (IHG) plans to open 22 hotels in Tier-I and Tier-II cities across the country. Currently, IHG has 13 properties in India, 11 of which are franchisees and the Group manages the remaining two. The company intends to manage all its future properties. With all these expansions, InterContinental will be adding 5,000 rooms.

InterContinental is also looking at resort destinations apart from city hotels to develop its three brands in India: InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts and Holiday Inn Hotels. The Group is currently in talks with leading hotel developers for its expansion plans. The company has tied up with real-estate companies like Emaar, Today Group and Eros. InterContinental has added a total of 2,670 rooms in Asia Pacific. Another 8,922 rooms have been added across the InterContinental's brands — Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express brands. In all, IHG achieved its global three year target to increase the number of rooms globally by 60,000, six months earlier than planned.
