Phoenix Group Global launches its luxury brand Zuri Hotels and Resorts in India

Phoenix Group Global has launched Zuri Hotels & Resorts, its own luxury business hotel brand in India. The first property under this new brand will be launched at Whitefield in Bangalore next month at an investment of Rs 200 crore. The Group’s future properties will all come up under the Zuri Hotels & Resorts banner. Properties are planned for Mysore, Chennai, Kochi, Vizag, Nagpur and Ahmedabad.

“Through a study conducted by HVS International, we discovered that there is a huge gap between demand and supply in places like Nagpur, Vizag and Kochi. Therefore, we chose these locations for our upcoming hotel projects. A mix of four and five star business hotels is planned for these sites. The properties will be entirely owned, developed and managed by the Group. We want our brand to have a completely trendy appeal,” informed Priti Chand, Director - PR & Communications, Phoenix Group Global. All these properties will have the same concept but the size, number of rooms, facilities and category will vary depending upon location.

Until now, the Group’s Indian operations were in association with Carlson Hotels. “Now that we have gained expertise in the hospitality sector, it was a natural progression for the company to move on and launch its own brand,” added Chand. However, the company has not taken a decision regarding inclusion of all existing properties under the Zuri umbrella. This decision will be taken at the start of the next year9 when the company’s agreement with Carlson is due for renewal. Its existing properties in Liverpool and Kenya will be tagged under the Zuri brand.

Work on a mixed use property covering 5.5 acres in Devanahalli, Bangalore will commence next month and the property will be ready in about 18 months. The property will incorporate a business hotel, retail and commercial space and will be built at a cost of Rs 100 crore. The Zuri, Whitefield has 162 rooms of which 20 are interconnected and can be used for family stay. The hotel’s eighth floor is the all-suite floor consisting of two Presidential Suites and four Junior Suites. The all suite floor includes an executive lounge where breakfast is provided, plus a club menu of light snacks/meals is available throughout the day. The property houses a convention centre and banquet hall with a capacity to accommodate 170 to 320 persons and three boardrooms with an adjoining business centre, a heated swimming pool, spa, fitness centre and beauty salon. F&B options include a 24/7 coffee shop ‘Kahwa,’ a bar, ‘Barolo;’ an Italian restaurant ‘Incanto;’ a Pool Bar, ‘The Executive Bar & Grill’ and a rooftop Pan Asian restaurant and bar, ‘Sake.’

The company is currently raising funds for all its projects through nationalised banks and private investors. It hopes to take the IPO or Private Equity route in 2009.
