Hotels in a quandary over Christmas and New Year celebrations

By around this time, usually, most of the hotels across India are extremely busy formulating their Christmas and New Year celebration plans. The Chefs are finalising a special menu for the occasion, while the hotels are approaching celebrities for the various events in their respective properties. However, the recent terror attacks in Mumbai have changed all that and the hotels are in a state of confusion.

Some hotels are planning to cancel their celebrations in order to pay homage to their colleagues who lost their lives in the recent terror strikes on The Taj Mahal Palace & Tower and The Oberoi and Trident Hotel, while others are contemplating subdued celebrations. Moreover, some hotels are still in a dilemma as the fear factor still exists. Hotels might not host functions like they usually do during this time of the year and instead, just have a special dinner laid out for their patrons.

JW Marriott Mumbai and the Renaissance Mumbai Hotel and Convention Centre have cancelled their New Year parties. “In view of the recent events, as a mark of solidarity and support, we have decided to call off the New Year celebrations at the JW Marriott Mumbai and the Renaissance Mumbai Hotel & Convention Centre,” stated Khushnooma Kapadia, Country Director, Marketing and Communications, Marriott Group of Hotels, India.

Grand Hyatt, The Leela Kempinski, ITC Grand Central, Le Royal Meridien, The Park Navi Mumbai have decided to go ahead with their Christmas and New Year celebrations. These hotels will have a special menu for buffet lunch and dinner for their guests. However, they might not go ahead with theme parties and DJ nights. ITC Maratha, Sahara Star, The Palms Hotel Tower and Villas, Hyatt Regency, Grand Sarovar Premiere, Tunga Regency, Navi Mumbai are yet to make a decision in this regard and will do so in the near future.
