VisitBritain celebrates Olympic Flag hand over

VisitBritain along with other partners like Visit London, British Airways and Cutty Sark organised a get-together at the British High Commissioner’s residence in Delhi to celebrate the occasion of the formal handing over of the Olympic flag to London at the closing of the Beijing Olympics 2008. Dignitaries assembled watched the closing ceremony of Beijing Olympics, where the London Mayor received and Olympic Flag from his Chinese counterpart, on a live feed.

Speaking at the occasion, the host, Sir Richard Stagg, British High Commissioner to India said, “It is is the start of four busy years – culminating in the great Olympic Games in London in 2012. London is the only city ever to be awarded the Games three times. We are determined to show that London is 100 per cent worthy of this great honour.” He also said that there were a lot of similarities between India and Britain as preparations for 2010 Commonwealth Games are underway in India now.

Also present at the occasion were Paramjit Bawa, Country Manager, VisitBritain and Punam Singh, Chief Representative - India, Visit London. Both expressed their confidence that the opportunity to host Olympics would make Britain an appealing destination in the emerging markets like China, India, Malaysia, etc.
