Virgin Atlantic plans to increase operations in India

Virgin Atlantic plans to expand its operations in India by starting flights from metros and Tier-II cities. Though there is no definite time period allocated for initiating the new flights, the airline is positive of starting the process soon. For the same, the airline is looking at Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai. Apart form this, the airline also plans to upgrade its fleet by getting A380 and 787 Dreamliner.

Speaking with Michael Burke, General Manager – India said, “With the aviation industry suffering a major blow globally at the hands of Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) price hike, it is ideally not the appropriate time to plan expansion. But we are hopeful of starting new flights from cities like Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai very soon.” Elaborating the airline’s promotional strategies for the Indian subcontinent, Burke said, “Our promotional strategy will include print campaigns, strong branding and working in conjunction with Visit Britain to promote Britain as a destination.” Virgin Atlantic is also working towards some new onboard services. According to Burke, India is among those few countries from where Virgin Atlantic flies from two destinations, namely New Delhi and Mumbai.
