Travel associations positive about inclusion of transaction fee in air ticket

The technical committee comprising of representatives of the airlines and agents met today in Mumbai to discuss the possibilities of including the transaction fee in the air ticket post the implementation of zero commission regime. The committee at the end of their deliberations seemed positive about including the transaction fee and is now awaiting legal opinion on the matter of Service Tax and TDS. Once the legal opinion is secured on the subject, the airlines and the travel trade associations will decide on the date for the next meeting to further discuss the inclusion of transaction fee in the air ticket.

“The meeting was very good and there was discussion on the technical feasibility to study how and in which manner the transaction fee should be included,” informed C V Prasad, President, TAAI. He further added, “No other negotiations were undertaken today. The meeting today of the technical committee was a fall out of the meeting held on August 14 between airlines and travel trade associations on the zero commission issue. At this meeting the airlines had agreed in principle to include transaction fee in the air ticket and to hold a separate meeting of a technical committee to discuss the feasibility.
