Star Alliance to bring ‘Move Under One Roof’ concept to India

The ‘Move Under One Roof’ concept adopted by Star Alliance, where all the member airlines are clubbed at one terminal, will soon be adopted in India. Star Alliance plans to introduce the concept in the Indian market in the near future. This move will result in minimising the waiting time of passengers. As per sources from Star Alliance, “The dedicated alliance terminal will be set at one of the new airport and is currently at a nascent stage of planning. We want to bring in a similar concept that we have adopted in the international market.” In June 2006, Japan’s Narita Airport undertook the movement of all Star Alliance member airlines under one roof and witnessed over 50 per cent reduction in waiting time of passengers. The ‘Move Under One Roof’ concept will also be adopted at other airports globally, which include Bangkok, Miami, Shanghai, Beijing, Singapore. Seoul Airport recently completed the movement of all Star Alliance members under one roof.

Furthermore, Star Alliance also plans to set up a dedicated Star Alliance lounge at the international airport in Mumbai. A dedicated Star Alliance lounge will involve all 21 member airlines of the alliance to operate a single lounge for all their passengers. As per official sources from Mumbai International Airport Ltd. (MIAL), “The space for the Star Alliance lounge has been allocated and the lounge is under construction. Other alliance groups like One World and Sky Team will also set up similar dedicated lounges for their alliance members.” The dedicated alliance lounge will reduce the congestion level at the airport and eventually improve the turn around time of the passengers and the facilities provided at the airport. Groups like Emirates and Oberoi’s will also set up their dedicated lounges at the international airport in Mumbai.
