Saroma Holidays to introduce houseboats and resorts equipped to service PwDs

Kerala based destination management company, Saroma Holidays, is planning to tap the niche segment of Accessible Tourism to attract potential customers from the Persons with Disability (PwD) community by introducing accessible features of international standards in their services. The company is developing a hill resort in Wayanad, (North Kerala), which will be 100 per cent accessible. The resort will comprise of 52 cottages, conference halls and a swimming pool. The construction will be done adhering to the concept of ‘Universal Design,’ which factors in access facilities for the disabled at the design and planning stage of a project. The company is also on a similar resort project with 60 cottages in Calicut.

Saroma Holidays will also launch a houseboat in Kerala next month which will be 100 per cent accessible. “We have been working on various projects for one and a half years now and we have vehicles, houseboats and cottages that cater to the needs of disabled travellers” said Satish K Nair, Director-India (North & West), Saroma Holidays. He further added, “Adapting accessible features during construction can reduce costs. We have spent two to three lakhs more to make two vehicles from our fleet accessible for our disabled consumers.”
