MayFair Group of Hotels on expansion mode

MayFair Group of Hotels will launch a new property in Gangtok, titled MayFair Gangtok Spa and Resort in December, 2008. The property, which will be built on 48 acres will host 64 rooms comprising villas with private pools, heritage cottages, and bamboo cottages. In addition to the outdoor heated swimming pool and the indoor pool at the Spa, each suite will have its own private dip pool. The hotel will offer indoor conferencing facilities with a capacity of 200 guests. “Along with the indoor conferencing, the property will also offer outdoor conferencing facilities, which is a unique feature in this region,” said Bjorn Noel DeNeise, General Manager, MayFair Gangtok. The property will also offer spa and casino options. “The tourism department of Sikkim is open to giving licenses for Casinos and we will be applying for the license soon. Besides this, MayFair will open India’s largest on-shore full-fledged casino in the first half of 2009,” informed DeNeise.

The property in Gangtok has incurred an investment of about Rs 60 crore so far. In addition to this, MayFair Group of Hotels will also launch a convention center in Bhubaneshwar. The centre which has earmarked an investment of Rs 15 crore is expected to start operations by the end of this year and will be located opposite their MayFair Lagoon property. In order to cater to the MICE segment, the convention centre will host about 1,000 people. It will house a banquet hall accommodating 60-800 people, and a conference room for 50 people. The property will also have about 20 rooms.

The MayFair Group of Hotels has expansions plans of starting properties at Cuttack, Chilika Lake, Kalimpong and Paradeep among others by 2010. The hotel company currently has hotels in Bhubaneshwar and Puri in Orissa, Rourkela and Darjeeling (a heritage property with hotel rooms named as per the history of the region). “The property in Bhubaneshwar will see an addition of 27 more Executive cottages to be commissioned by October this year and the property in Rourkela will see an addition of seven Executive rooms by November 2008,” said Sanjay Bhargava, Vice President Operations, MayFair Group of Hotels. The Group started 25 years ago with a restaurant named Tandoor in Rourkela and further ventured into the hotel business.
