HUDCO preparing Tourism Master Plan for Tamil Nadu Tourism

Housing and Urban Development Corporation Limited (HUDCO) is preparing a Tourism Master Plan for Tamil Nadu Tourism. HUDCO won the bid in September last year and is in the process of preparing the final draft of the Master Plan. It hopes to complete the final draft Master Plan by month end. HUDCO has prior experience in tourism as it has worked on a project for revamping Mahabalipuram. “We will suggest to the tourism department ways on how to develop tourist infrastructure and promote tourism in the state. The tourism department will do the needful in incorporating these measures. We will play the role of facilitator for the tourism projects,” informed S Muralidharan, Chief Projects Officer, HUDCO.

The Master Plan will discuss in detail the product, the process to develop the product, the mechanism and governance aspects. As per the Master Plan there will be development at district level and destination level. At the district level the infrastructure will have to be created to attract tourists and investors. Once basic infrastructure is created, major tourist destinations to be promoted will be identified. Once identified, research will be conducted on tourism opportunities in the destinations and suggestions will be made to develop these destinations. HUDCO has already identified Thiruvallur as a major destination and has conducted research on this destination.
