Chhattisgarh Tourism Board to promote tourism circuits

With an overall tourist arrival of 20 lakh last year, Chhattisgarh Tourism Board will now tap into select tourism circuits within the state to promote tourism. In this regard, three circuits have been identified, which cover all aspects of the destination be it Wildlife, Rural or Religious Tourism. The identified circuits include the Raipur – Sirpur – Balampara Circuit, the Raipur- Bulander-Kanha Circuit and the Raipur – Achanakmar – Amar Kantak Circuit. Speaking with TravelBiz Monitor, Sunil Mishra, Managing Director, Chhattisgarh Tourism Board said, “There are many motels being built around the Circuits to promote these destinations. In addition, we have also worked upon improving the roads to many tourist spots.” The Board will focus on niche areas such as Rural, Ecotourism, Heritage, and Religious Tourism in the coming months. It will also promote Manpad, a hill station, which is located around 300 kms from Raipur.

The state has worked on the Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) model to develop its own land banks to promote tourism in the state. “The Valecha Group has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Chhattisgarh Tourism Board to invest Rs 200 crore in order to develop tourism facilities at the destinations. The tourism development promotion policy has proved to be tourist-friendly as it promotes exemption from stamp duty, land taxes and provides tour operators a 50 per cent exemption on road and entry taxes,” stated Mishra. The Centre is also aiding the state in its tourism promotion plans. Recently, the tourism budget for Chattisgarh was doubled to 40 crore of which the Centre contributed Rs 20-25 crore.
