Bangladeshi private airline, United Airways to operate Dhaka-Kolkata flight from September 24, 2008

United Airways Bangladesh, a private airline in Bangladesh, will start a daily flight between Dhaka and Kolkata from September 24 this year. The airline will deploy a 37-seater Dash-8-100 aircraft for the sector. It will be the second private airline from Bangladesh, after GMG Airline, to operate between Dhaka and Kolkata. Encouraged by ten per cent air traffic growth in Bangladesh, the airline has decided to operate passenger and cargo services in international sectors after getting a licence from the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh.

Jilanee F R Chowdhury, Director-Marketing and Sales, United Airways in a press conference in Kolkata recently said, “We will also start Dhaka-Kathmandu and Chittagong- Kolkata flights in a couple of months. Subsequently, we will expand operations to Mumbai, Chennai and Guwahati, besides starting flights to Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Bahrain, Dubai and London.” The airline, which commenced operations about a year ago with Two Dash-8-100 Canadian aircraft is planning outright purchase of six big jets, including Airbus A-310 or Boeing-737-800, to expand its fleet for international operations to 25 destinations in the next five years. "We have planned to raise Rs 2,000 crore over the five years," added Chowdhury.
